records

Are there any music snobs out there that can explain to me this oddly pervasive belief among snooty music-o-philes that a record produces "better sound" than a CD?

I mean, they always use weird vague words like records have better "body" or "depth" or "character". Are you seriously telling me that there are sounds that can't be reproduced digitally? That you couldn't digitally reproduce the EXACT sound that a record makes when it plays? Because I find it impossible to believe that.

Is this something backed up by any sort of science, or just people's experiences with their ears?
